Line and Lineage: A Survey of Poetry Writing and the Line in English

Course Description:

In this course, students build their knowledge of the history of poetry writing in English through a chronological exploration of the poetic line. 
 
Learning Outcomes / Course Objectives:
  • To acquire a deeper understanding of the history of poetry writing in English and how that history has shaped the practice of poetry writing in a contemporary context.
  • To explore the historical elements and traditions shaping an aesthetic concept of the poetic line.
  • To grow as a writer, reader, thinker, and member of the literary community by actively engaging with poetic structure, forms, concerns, and conversations in reading, in writing, and in person.
